Exploring the National Assembly is a unique opportunity to see democracy in action. We welcome schools, organizations, and the general public to tour our facilities or observe official sittings.
How to Arrange Your Visit
To arrange a tour of the National Assembly of Belize at a convenient date and time, we advise that you call the office at our official telephone numbers. It is important that all school and group visits be arranged in advance.
General Visitor Guidelines
- All visitors are subject to security screening upon entry.
- Visitors must comply with directions from the Security Personnel, or Parliamentary officers.
- No WEAPONS allowed (firearms, knives, pepper spray, etc.)
- Members of Parliament must not be harassed or obstructed in the performance of their duties.
- Children, if admitted, must be accompanied by an adult and remain seated and quiet.
Dress Code
Visitors are expected to dress neatly and appropriately. The following are not permitted:
- Sleeveless T-shirts, Slippers, or Short pants.
- Apparel with political party emblems or obscene/offensive prints.
- Hats/sunshades must be removed upon entering the building.
Visiting the Galleries during a Sitting
When school/groups or individuals attend a House Sitting, it is important to note that it is a privilege and not a right. All the rules set out by the Standing Orders and the Speaker must be observed while visitors are seated in the galleries. Visitors to the Public Galleries attend for the purpose of observing the proceedings of Parliament.
The following conduct is required:
Expected Behaviour
- Remain seated quietly and give full attention to the debates.
- Respect the authority of the Presiding Officer.
- Once the Presiding Officer rises to speak, no person is permitted to walk; anyone in motion must immediately stop and remain standing until the Presiding Officer resumes sitting.
Prohibited Behavior
The following is not allowed while in the Galleries:
- Eating or drinking
- Loud laughing, conversing, applauding, or jeering
- Sleeping, reading, or writing [other than at the Press Table
- Taking photographs, videotaping, or audio-recording (unless authorized media)
- Using cell phones, pagers, or other devices that may disrupt proceedings
- Smoking or engaging in any disruptive behaviour
